Changes have also been made to Domino City, as the town is now divided into New Domino City and The Satellite. While regular Duel Disks are still in use, this new type of Duel Disk is widely used. Some changes have been made to the game, with the introduction of Duel Runners, motorcycles-like vehicles that act as Duel Disks. Just like Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's revolves around the Duel Monsters card game.
The show takes place many years after the events in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's is a Japanese anime that follows the adventures of protagonist Yusei Fudo, an aspiring duelist. Along with the other Signers, they must defeat a mysterious group of duelist called the Dark Signers who hold a grudge against Signers. It is revealed that Yusei and Jack are Signers, those who bare the mark of the Crimson Dragon and have the ability to summon it. During Yusei's duel with Jack, a mysterious monster called the Crimson Dragon appears. Jack has made quite a name for himself being known as the Duel King, but coming from the Satellite he must keep his past a secret. Yusei and Jack were once best friends until one day when Jack betrays Yusei by stealing his Duel Runner and Stardust Dragon duel monster. Yusei Fudo who grew up in The Satellite travels to New Domino City in order to duel Jack Atlas, a well-known dueler. Rich and powerful people occupy New Domino City, while the poor reside in The Satellite.
Five years later GX aired with an ideal target demographic of 8-16 but 4kids failed to realize that the attachment to OG series characters, and monsters were its commercial draw to US audiences and the new, less "edgy" character designs and plots weren't as generally appealing so it under performed.ĥDs was likely seen as the "successor" to the main series by 4kids and, looking to cut their loses with GX, moved toward the project as quickly as they could - failing to realize the younger audience who they were looking to capitalize on was now much older (7 or so years) and was likely WHOLLY uninterested in Yugioh as a television series by now - and the generation of viewers who grew up with 5Ds likely lost track of the show due to its seasonal hiatus' (likely caused by dwindling funds and/or resource reallocation).Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's is a Japanese anime that follows the adventures of protagonist Yusei Fudo, an aspiring duelist. The first anime aired in NA first in '01, which was targeted toward kids 8-14. pay off was very frightening to 4kids - with 5ds on the horizon they couldnt "afford" both running at the same time which would have had them "competing" with one another.ĥds wasn't finished purportedly due to "lack of interest" which is to say that it's ratings were lower than predicted - the prime demographic had been aging out of the style of 4kids dubs in the USA.
